Welcome to SensingPeace.com ~
What is peace?
We created a conversation about peace.
A conversation which has now evolved into a larger conversation involving
the art community, the non-profit community, the business community,
our whole society.
Through this conversation we conceptualized Sensing Peace. Sensing Peace
is a giving initiative that raises funds for social betterment programs
in Africa. Positive initiatives abound on the continent; the challenge
always remains securing funding to consolidate the gains made and to
realize new visions. A micro-granting project would revitalize grass-roots
organizing and social programming all over the continent.
The organizers Deqa Abshir and Jill Dubreuil, both artists, brought
together a group of talented and dedicated artists for Sensing Peace's
first event; a collaborative exhibition.
We believe that the achievement of peace begins within ourselves, Sensing
Peace draws on strengths and potentialities that exist within each of
us. Each artist in this show interpreted peace by means of their senses;
visual, aural, smell, taste, and feel. This art community and their
supporters will discover the possibility of peace in the present and
in the future. On display will be the work of 30 artists from all fields:
visual artists, musicians, dancers, chefs, and film makers, each expressing
what peace means to them.
This is a battle that we can take on and win, if only we work together.
Peace can be achieved through the taking of small steps: teaching a
little girl how to read is one of the very first steps. So it is fitting
that all the proceeds from the Sensing Peace show will be donated to
the Galkayo Education Center for Peace and Development (GECPD) in Somalia.
We welcome you to come and join the Sensing Peace community:

"If art is to nourish the roots of our culture,
society must set the artist free to follow his vision wherever it takes
him. We must never forget that art is not a form of propaganda; it is
a form of truth." ~ John F. Kennedy
